SQNPI: sustainable quality

A COMMITMENT, A CERTIFICATION AND A BRAND

At Araldica Castelvero, we have embarked on a path of improvement aimed at ensuring the implementation of sustainable viticulture by our members. A process that began in 2017 with the SQNPI certification (National Quality System of Integrated Production) instituted by the Ministry of Agriculture to which we have voluntarily joined. The bee logo that is placed on the labels is the result of numerous steps and controls throughout the production cycle including agricultural, environmental and ethical/social aspects.

A LONG CHAIN WITH DEEP ROOTS

Our wine grower-members, constantly supported by our agronomists, represent the first link in a long chain that starts from the vineyard and ends in the glass. Sturdy roots on the land that represents such a precious asset, already recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Carbon Footprint

Since 2017, we have requested DNV's support in conducting a Carbon Footprint Assessment (CFA) to examine our Carbon Footprint along its entire production cycle. This has allowed us to:

  • Quantify CO2-eq emissions
  • Identify strategies for reducing the CFP of products

We have already reduced the weight of glass on our bottles by up to 15%.

ISO 14001: ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

ISO 14001 is a non-compulsory process certification. It is a voluntary choice in which we are committed to implementing our environmental management system.

We keep the environmental impacts of our activities under control by systematically seeking improvement in an effective and, above all, sustainable manner. The requirements of the standard can be schematised according to the continuous improvement model defined by the Deming cycle:

PLAN > DO > CHECK > ACT

The main environmental impacts that are monitored are:

  • Consumption of drinking water and production of waste water
  • Quantity of waste products disposed of through separate waste collection
  • Electricity consumption
  • Production of electricity through photovoltaic plant
  • Carbon Footprint

ENVIRONMENTAL CUSTODIANS

"The Earth we have was not inherited from our parents, but borrowed from our children" - Ancient Indian proverb

All preparatory work on the soil is undertaken with the aim of safeguarding and improving fertility, avoiding erosion or compaction while safeguarding the microflora and microfauna. We are custodians of our hills, which represent our greatest heritage and the future of our children, which is also why we have decided to adopt a policy of ZERO chemical weeding in our vineyards.

FURTHERMORE…

We have doubled the area of solar panels in our production areas to a potential of more than 530 Kw. Renewable and clean energy.

Our reed bed filtration pools are a natural way to treat winery waste waters so they are purified before reintroduction into watercourses.

We use sewage sludge as fertiliser on agricultural land, replenishing nutrients. A perfect example of a circular economy.
